Editorial standards
How profiles are produced, what our labels mean, and the limits of what publication signifies.
The essential point
Publication by The Aeternum Review is an editorial act. It does not grant, confer, accredit or validate any academic qualification. The Review is not a degree-awarding body, an accreditation agency, or a peer-reviewed journal, and it does not assess the scientific merit of research described in its profiles.
How a profile comes to exist
Profiles originate in one of two ways: a subject submits their own achievement for consideration, or our editors identify work they consider worth documenting and approach the subject. In both cases the published text is written by our editorial desk from material the subject has supplied and confirmed.
Where a claim requires substantiation, we request supporting information. This is routine. A submission that cannot be substantiated at all is not published.
What editorial review is — and is not
Our review establishes that a profile is complete, internally consistent, and supported by the references it cites. It confirms that dates, institutions and qualifications as stated do not contradict one another or the sources provided.
It is not academic peer review. We do not evaluate whether a research methodology was sound, whether findings are correct, or whether a contribution is significant. Those judgements belong to the relevant scholarly community, and any publication claiming otherwise would be overreaching considerably.
What our credential labels mean
Every profile carries a label stating the basis of its information. These are not decorative, and we apply them conservatively.
Credential Provided
Information supplied by the subject or their representative. Not independently checked.
Institutional Reference
Supported by a reference to an institutional page or record we have viewed.
Externally Referenced
Supported by links to external records such as indexed profiles or patent databases.
Publication Reference
Supported by published works, DOIs or thesis records.
Verified
Our desk has completed verification of the credentials listed, typically by direct correspondence with the awarding institution.
The label Verified appears only where verification has actually been performed. It is the least common label on this site, and deliberately so.
Recognition badges
Some profiles carry a badge — Featured Scholar, Distinguished Researcher, Research Excellence, Academic Leadership, or Published Academic Profile. These are editorial designations describing the nature of the profile or its placement in the publication. They are not awards, they cannot be purchased, and they carry no external standing. Each badge on a profile states what it means.
Research impact figures
Where a profile displays citation counts, an h-index or similar measures, those figures were supplied by the subject or read from an indexing service at the time of publication. Bibliometric measures differ substantially between services and change over time. We present them as indicative, we date them to publication, and we do not compute or estimate them ourselves. Fields for which no information was submitted are omitted rather than filled.
Institutions
Institutions are named for identification only. A profile is described as associated with an institution when its academic or professional record names that institution. No institution featured on this site is a partner of the Review, none has reviewed or approved our content, and we do not use language implying affiliation, sponsorship or endorsement.
Authorship and attribution
Each profile names the editor who wrote it and, where a second reading was carried out, the editor who reviewed it. Publication and update dates are displayed on every profile, and substantive revisions appear in a visible update history.
Independence
There is no charge for editorial consideration or publication. We do not sell placement, featured positions, badges or cover stories. We are not paid by institutions to feature their staff. Editorial decisions rest with the desk.
Corrections and withdrawal
Anyone featured may request a correction, submit updated credentials, add new publications or awards, record a career change, or request withdrawal of their profile entirely. Requests are made through our corrections page and we act on them promptly.
